Birds Nest Cottage was part of a former stable block dating back 300 years. It is Grade One listed as it is within feet of St Mary’s Priory Church – one of the oldest Saxon Churches in the country displaying Saxon workmanship inside and outside of the building.
Tim and Cate Morris who own Birds Nest Cottage farm and live at Deerhurst Priory, near Tewkesbury – the Priory has had many uses in its time, and has a very colourful history.
Deerhurst is a Saxon settlement and the Priory was part of the Benedictine monastery that was situated here from the 8th Century.
After the 16th century the original hall where the monks lived probably became the farm house that it is today (the Morris family have farmed here for nearly 200 years).
Deerhurst is also host to another Saxon building Odda’s Chapel which is now owned by English Heritage.
